My name is Helen Savage. I would like to invite your children to come along to make, create and invent at the Art Lab!
My vision is to provide an engaging, well-resourced, creative studio, with a variety of child-centred choices and high-quality teaching.
I have converted two rooms in our Rainbow Court, Raumati home into a teaching studio and I’m providing after-school and holiday art-craft-construction workshops for children from 5 to 13 years.
I am passionate about developing children’s creative-making and creative-thinking skills, and confidence. New Zealanders are already adept at these skills and have an international reputation for such. (It’s our kiwi DIY ‘super power’!) However, today, creative and critical thinking skills need to be nurtured when digital entertainment and ‘cookie cutter’ solutions are so available and compete for our children’s time and attention.
A little about me and the background of this venture…
I am a New Zealand trained primary teacher and a trained artist/sculptor/printmaker. In 2018, my husband Paul and I returned to NZ after teaching art and ‘inquiry’ in international primary schools for seven years.
From 1992 onwards, I was supervising and developing after-school care programmes for the OSCAR Network. In 2004, I started teaching children’s art classes at the Centre of Contemporay Art in Christchurch. From 2011, I was an International Baccalauratte PYP teacher and a specialist art teacher – with over 400 students participating in my art classes a week!
I look forward to meeting you and your child.
Phone me if you have any questions or would like to talk about your child.
